This guide is for those people who want to apply for new bank passbook. If you are one of them and want to get a new bank passbook then you have been landed in the right place. You will find all the steps which you need to follow to get a new one. The procedure to get a new one will have the below-mentioned steps.
|Step 1: Write an application to the branch manager.|
I will explain each of these 6 steps in the further part of the guide to make sure that you understand all those steps.
- 1 Step 1: Write an application to the branch manager.
- 2 Step 2: Collect your address proof and identity proof documents.
- 3 Step 3: Take a clear photocopy of your address proof and identity proof documents.
- 4 Step 4: Make your signature on those photocopies to make it valid.
- 5 Step 5: Attach your photocopies with the application.
- 6 Step 6: Collect the application form along with the photocopies and submit it to the bank officials.
- 7 Step 7: Collect the new bank passbook from the bank.
Step 1: Write an application to the branch manager.
So the first steps which you need to follow are writing an application letter to the manager of your home branch. Before we start this step you need to understand the meaning of the term home branch. What do I actually mean by this term here? When you are trying to make any changes to your bank account you should already reach out your home branch.
Home branch is the branch of the bank where you had opened the bank account and maintain it. Because it is necessary for almost all the bank which are operating in India to reach out the home branch when you want to change something related to the account.
At a point of view, it is a very good thing when you view it with a security point of view. But it is also an issue when you are out of your home city. For example, I am from Bengaluru, Karnataka and I have a bank account with the State Bank of India. But currently I am doing some job in Chennai and I live in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
So let us consider this case and it these situations I can’t get a new bank passbook from any of the State Bank of India branches which are situated in Chennai. I have to go to Bengaluru, Karnataka and get in touch with the branch with whom I maintain my State Bank of India bank account.
Here I want to clear one more thing and that is if you have ever transferred your bank account from one branch to another branch then your home branch will also be changed. In this case, you need to contact your new branch that is the second one and not the previous one.
Let me explain this with an example to you. Consider that as I am doing a job in Chennai, Tamil Nadu I have taken the transfer of my State Bank of India account from my Bengaluru branch to any of the branches which are near to my location in Chennai. In this case, I need to contact the Chennai branch to which I have taken the transfer of the bank account.
If you are suffering from this problem and you are living in some other city and your account is with the branch of any other city. Then I highly recommend you to take the transfer of your bank account to your current location.
Now let me give you the application format which you need to follow and write the application letter to your branch manager.
(Your Bank Name)
(Your Branch Name)
Subject: Request For New Bank Passbook.
I Mr./Miss. (your name), I am an account holder in your branch from past many months. My bank account number is xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx. (your account number) Today I am writing this letter to you because I want a new bank passbook from my bank account.
The reason is my current bank passbook is full and I am facing issues to get the latest transactions entered in that passbook. So I request you to issue a second passbook for my bank account.
I have attached to valid photocopies of my Identity and address proof documents with this application letter.
So this is the application format for new bank passbook. I hope you are clear about the format and now you have got an image in your mind about how you need to write the application form addressing to your branch manager.
Step 2: Collect your address proof and identity proof documents.
In the second step, you need to collect or gather the address proof and the identity proof documents.
Here you need to note that you just need to take one address proof and one identity proof document and not all the documents that you have with you. Many people get confused about this and they take multiple address proof and identity proof documents with them which is not necessary at all.
But the question here is which are the documents which you can take with you? The answer to this question is mentioned below.
Address Proof Documents:
- Voter Identity Card Issued by Election Commission of India.
- Aadhaar Card Issued by UIDAI.
- Ration Card
- And Many others.
There are many other documents which can be used as the address proof documents but these are the most common and widely used for this purpose.
Identity Proof Documents:
- PAN Card Issued by Income Tax Department of India.
- Employee Identity Card Issued By Any Public or Private Sector Company.
- Voter Identity Card Issued by Election Commission of India.
- Driving License Issued by any of the RTO’s of India.
- And Many others
So these are the list of documents which you can use.
Step 3: Take a clear photocopy of your address proof and identity proof documents.
Photocopies are very important because you can’t simply submit the original copies of your documents to the bank and they don’t accept the original ones either. But you should make sure that your photograph and the other details are clearly visible in the photocopy.
If the details are not clearly visible then the bank officials will not accept the photocopy and you will face difficulties in getting a new bank passbook.
Step 4: Make your signature on those photocopies to make it valid.
After writing the application letter to the branch manager and taking out the clear photocopies of your documents. You need to make sure that they are valid. But how can you do that?
You can make the photocopies valid by making your signature on them this is called as self-attested documents. Without your signature on those photocopies, they are not considered as valid by the bank officials. Here you should be clear that you need to do your signature but it should not be too big or it should not cover the major part of the photocopy.
Just do your signature on the side of the content of the photocopy and it should be visible enough. When you make your signature on them you agree that the details and information which is mentioned in the documents are legit and true to your knowledge.
Step 5: Attach your photocopies with the application.
We are now almost done with the process to get a new bank passbook. We have already come across the steps like writing the application letter addressing to the branch manager, taking photocopies of the proof documents and making them self-attested.
Now it is time to attach them to the main application letter. There are a number of ways how you can attach them to the main application letter you can staple them together or attach them using the paper pin etc.
Do it however you want the main motive is just to keep them together by attaching them. Most of it is better to staple the papers together but then it is ultimately your choice how you will do it.
Step 6: Collect the application form along with the photocopies and submit it to the bank officials.
You are now all set to complete the process to get a new bank passbook. Everything is prepared and at last, you need to submit the application letter to the branch officials.
Step 7: Collect the new bank passbook from the bank.
And finally, it’s time for you to get your new bank passbook from the bank. They will hand over the new one to you and mention that it is your second passbook on the first page of the book.
Ok, now one more thing which you should note is no matter you have got the new one but you should not damage or dispose of your main or first passbook you need to preserve it. Only in the case, if you have lost your main passbook it is ok to keep only the second one.
Let’s Wrap Up Now
So this is how you can get a new bank passbook in all the Indian Banks. I hope you are clear with all the details and information mentioned in this guide. I have tried my best to explain everything which you need to know. But still, if you have any kind of doubts in your mind or facing any difficulties you can comment down below.
